“Good design is not about style, but about character.”

T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings (1903–1976) was a British-born, American-based designer whose work redefined 20th-century interiors through clarity, restraint, and intellectual rigor. Rejecting ornament and superficial styling, he championed a philosophy rooted in proportion, authenticity, and the enduring values of classical design.

Active in New York during the 1930s and 1940s, he gained prominence for his refined furniture collections and collaborations with leading manufacturers. His designs distilled ancient Greek principles into modern forms, creating pieces that were both timeless and uncompromisingly contemporary.

Later in life, he relocated to Athens, where his deep engagement with Greek antiquity culminated in significant commissions, including furnishings for the Greek royal family. His work remains a benchmark of integrity in design—where character prevails over style, and permanence over trend.
